From Customer Service to Yardi® Specialist: Joe's Inspiring Career Path

How dedication, curiosity, and a commitment to helping others can take you from the front lines to becoming an expert consultant.

At BC Solutions, we believe great consultants aren't just made in classrooms or certification programs. Some of our best team members found their way to Yardi expertise through unconventional paths, driven by curiosity and a genuine desire to solve problems. Joe Shamburg's journey exemplifies this.

Starting at the Front Lines

Joe didn't start his career planning to become a Yardi specialist. Like many in property management, he began in customer-facing roles where he learned firsthand what tenants, property managers, and operators actually need from their systems.

This foundation proved invaluable. Understanding the daily realities of property management—the frustrations with slow processes, the need for accurate information, the pressure of month-end closes—gives consultants perspective that purely technical training can't provide.

Finding Yardi

Joe's transition into Yardi work began when his organization implemented the platform. Rather than just learning to use it, he developed a curiosity about why it worked the way it did. He started asking questions, exploring capabilities beyond his immediate job requirements, and helping colleagues solve problems.

The Curiosity Factor

The consultants who go deepest in any platform are those who can't help but ask "why" and "what if." Joe's natural curiosity drove him to understand Yardi at a level that made others seek out his help.

Building Expertise

Over time, Joe became the go-to person for Yardi questions in his organization. He learned through a combination of:

  • Hands-on problem solving: Tackling real issues for real users
  • Self-directed learning: Exploring Yardi documentation and training resources
  • Peer networking: Connecting with others in the Yardi community
  • Formal training: Taking courses to fill gaps in his knowledge

The Transition to Consulting

When Joe joined BC Solutions, he brought both deep Yardi knowledge and something equally valuable: empathy for end users. Having been one himself, he understands the challenges of learning new systems, the frustration of unclear processes, and the importance of solutions that actually work in the real world.

"The best consultants remember what it was like to not know the answers. That perspective makes them better teachers and more patient problem solvers."

What Joe Brings to Clients

Joe's background shapes how he approaches every engagement:

  • User-first thinking: Solutions designed around how people actually work
  • Clear communication: Explaining technical concepts in accessible terms
  • Practical focus: Emphasis on solutions that will be adopted and used
  • Patient training: Understanding that learning takes time

The BC Solutions Team

Joe's story reflects something true about our team as a whole: we come from diverse backgrounds, united by genuine expertise in Yardi and a commitment to helping clients succeed. Some team members came through property management operations, others through IT, still others through finance. This diversity of perspective makes us better consultants.

We're always interested in connecting with people who share this combination of technical aptitude and service orientation. If you're building Yardi expertise and interested in consulting, we'd welcome a conversation.
